Jordan signs with Kent for upcoming tourney

Kent Cricket Club has bolstered its squad for the upcoming Vitality County Championship fixtures by signing Barbadian seam bowler Akeem Jordan.

The 29-year-old will be available for Kent’s crucial matches against Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Hampshire, and Nottinghamshire as the club battles to maintain its Division One status.

Jordan, who made his international debut for the West Indies in 2023 against the United Arab Emirates, has quickly established himself as a formidable force in first-class cricket.

He has taken 67 wickets in just 19 matches at an average of 24.10 for Barbados and has also featured in the Caribbean Premier League for Barbados Royals and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Expressing his excitement about joining Kent, Jordan said, “I am delighted to join Kent and eager to get started.

I understand the significance of the upcoming matches and am fully committed to contributing to the team’s strong finish. I look forward to meeting everyone at the club and

playing in front of the Kent members and supporters.”

Kent’s director of cricket Simon Cook expressed similar enthusiasm about the new signing.

“We are really pleased to welcome Akeem to the squad. He is an exciting talent and a proven wickettaker. We’ve identified Akeem as a player who can help us execute our strategies as we aim to maintain our Division One status,” Cook said.

Jordan joins Kent as their second overseas player, following the recent addition of Charlie Stobo, who will depart on September 16 to begin his season with Western Australia. Beyers Swanepoel has left Kent to join South Africa “A” for their four-day series against Sri Lanka “A”. (JC)
