JP Duminy, an ex-South African cricketer, has been appointed as the head coach of the Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20 franchise ahead of its third season. Previously, it was Johan Botha, a fellow Proteas cricketer and coach, who led the team during the second edition.
The prior all-rounder from South Africa was Warriorz’s batting coach for ILT20’s most recent season and he is one among others with extensive experience in T20 cricket.
The 40-year-old played 345 matches in this shorter format and has a total of 8,331 runs. He has additionally taken 99 wickets throughout his career as a right-arm off-break bowler.
In franchise cricket, Duminy has participated in IPL, CPL and PSL. Moreover, during his playing days, he was an integral member of South African team while also representing notable teams including Mumbai Indians,Sunrisers Hyderabad,Delhi Capitals,Barbados Tridents and Islamabad United.
The all-rounder is trained in playing conditions of UAE, knows all about the mentality of the Warriorz and has over 15 years of experience at the highest level of the game.
In 2023 earlier this year, Duminy had been enlisted as batting consultant for South African men’s white ball teams that did particularly well at World Cup ODI in India, where they often batted above 300 runs. He has also served as head coach for Paarl Royals in SA20 league and Boland Rocks’ provincial team.
