Keshav Maharaj- First South African to achieve this milestone

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj sculpted his name in history during the second Test match against West Indies. During this match, Keshav won the spot as the South African spin bowler with the highest wickets in Test matches.

After taking 8 wickets in the first Test match played in Port of Spain, Maharaj was 5 wickets short in breaking Hugh Joseph Tayfield’s record. He bowled a short spell in the first innings of the second Test and took 2 more wickets, followed by 3 wickets in the second innings. So he took a total of 5 wickets in 17 overs and made his name in history. Maharaj now has 171 wickets in 52 matches.

Maharaj is now the highest wicket taking spinner in South Africa’s history. He has 171 wickets with an average of 30.78. He has also once taken a 10-wicket haul. Apart from this, his best bowling figure is 9 wickets for 129 runs.

South African team gained 2 places and no the team is at the 5th position because of Keshav’s excellent performance.

The left arm bowler finished the series with 13 wickets. He was given the award of the Player of the Series for his 13 wickets in the two-match series against West Indies.
