The Sacramento Kings hosted the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night and picked up just their eighth win of the season, but the result was overshadowed by a historic performance from Russell Westbrook.
The 37-year-old veteran guard continues to defy time, delivering another impressive outing while climbing multiple NBA all-time lists in Sacramento’s 113–107 victory.
Russell Westbrook Climbs Multiple All-Time Lists in Kings’ Win
The Kings controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 15-point halftime lead. While Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks mounted a second-half push, Sacramento held firm down the stretch for a 113-107 win.
Westbrook finished with 21 points, five rebounds, nine assists, and one steal, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range in just 28 minutes.
With his second assist of the night, Westbrook passed Magic Johnson to move into seventh place on the NBA’s all-time assists list. He also recorded the 2,000th steal of his career, becoming one of just 14 players in NBA history to reach that mark, while inching closer to passing Dominique Wilkins on the all-time scoring list.
In doing so, Westbrook became only the fifth player since the 1973–74 season to compile 25,000 career points and 2,000 steals, joining LeBron James, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, and Hakeem Olajuwon.
TWO-WAY LONGEVITY 😤
Russell Westbrook is the 5th player since 1973-74 with 25,000 career PTS and 2,000 career STL, joining:
LeBron James (42,447 PTS, 2,357 STL)
Karl Malone (36,928 PTS, 2,085 STL
Michael Jordan (32,292 PTS, 2,514 STL)

Following the game, Westbrook reflected on the achievement with humility.
“Before I speak and say anything, I’m truly blessed and thankful to the man above for just allowing me and gifting me with the time to go out and play basketball,” Westbrook said. “As for passing Magic … it’s an honor. Magic is one of the greats. I’m grateful to be able to pass him just because he’s such a legend in so many different ways.”
In his first season with Sacramento, Westbrook has proven he can still perform at a high level, and retirement is not on his mind anytime soon.
“I just take it day by day,” Westbrook said. “I make sure I take care of my body and make sure I’m able to play at a high level. And then I’ll keep going until I feel like I had enough.”
Through 31 games, Westbrook is averaging 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 43.1% from the field and 36.1% from three-point range, numbers that show he’s far from finished.
With the win, the Kings improved to 8–23, currently sitting 14th in the Western Conference, and are 3–7 over their last 10 games.
Sacramento won’t have much time to celebrate, as they head to Los Angeles on Sunday to face LeBron James and the Lakers.
