KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan argues with PBKS’ Ness Wadia

Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan argues with PBKS’ Ness Wadia in a meeting. The IPL owners meeting is ongoing for discussions about auction purse, impact substitute rule and more in BCCI headquarters. The highly anticipated meeting is expected to cover and debate important issues.

The Auction Purse is expected to attract significant attention. Currently set at Rs 100 crore per team, there’s a strong possibility of an increase. This potential raise could lead to changes in strategies for both players and franchise owners.

Shah Rukh Khan argues with Ness Wadia in the meeting

A senior BCCI source revealed to Cricbuzz that Shah Rukh Khan strongly opposed mega auctions during the meeting. He was reportedly in a heated dispute with Ness Wadia of Punjab Kings over retention limits. Shah Rukh favored extensive retentions, while Wadia opposed them. KKR received backing from SRH’s owner, Kavya Maran.

“It takes a lot of time to build a squad and as discussed it also takes quite a bit of time and investment for the younger players to mature. It has taken Abhishek Sharma three years to become consistent with his performances. You would agree that there are many such examples in other teams too,” she said.

How does the auction purse decision change IPL 2025 dynamics?

The Auction Purse may dominate Wednesday’s meeting, as opinions are likely to converge on this topic. The house is still divided on issues like the Impact Player rule and retention policies.

The Impact Player rule, introduced in the 2024 IPL, faced significant criticism. Senior cricketers and coaches were largely opposed, noting it enhanced spectator enjoyment but negatively affected player development. It’s still early, but the debate on these rules continues.

The BCCI will hear from team owners on Wednesday. Board officials argue that the rule benefits Indian players by adding an extra batter or bowler, leading to high-scoring games that broadcasters appreciate as the ball frequently flies into the stands.
