Kona Just Built the Ultimate Bikepacking Bike

(KONA PRESS RELEASE)

Bikepacking has evolved and its enthusiasts have cried out, in its echo, a new Kona has burst onto the scene: the Unity. It might be the ultimate utilitarian bike, but it wouldn’t be fair to put it in just one box. It’s a mountain bike. It’s a gravel bike. It’s a bikepacking mule and a burly beast of burden built to go further, deeper, and more rugged than most bikes dare.

We wanted big tires. And mixed wheels. Trendy? Maybe. But we chose it because it brings the center of gravity where we want it, makes a stronger rear wheel, and allows for more clearance when it comes to rear racks and seat bags. We wanted BIGGER LOADS but weren’t willing to sacrifice ride quality.

So we optimized the geometry for riding under load, dialing in fork offset and handling to stay predictable when you’re fully packed. With a custom integrated cargo rack up front and an oversized front triangle built for max frame bag space, the Unity is ready for your biggest missions.

Whether you’re riding across a mountain range or building an off-grid battle cruiser, the Unity has your back, and your front.

UNITY HIGHLIGHTS

Custom frame-mounted front rack
Bolted directly to the frame, the Unity’s integrated front rack carries the load without influencing your steering. No flop, no sway, no wrestling with weight up front, just predictable handling, even with a week’s worth of gear strapped on.

Compatible with popular aftermarket carriers
No headache. It plays nicely with the most common third-party front and rear carriers, giving you freedom to expand capacity or tweak your setup based on the mission.

Dropper-friendly by design (170-200mm travel)
A pairing of tires that loves to dig in while still providing a fast rolling, drag-free feel without losing confidence while cornering.

Maximum front triangle space
A purpose-built, oversized front triangle gives you the biggest possible footprint for frame bags. Whether you’re carrying water, tools, camera gear or a full pantry, the Unity has room for it.

UDH / T-Type Compatibility w/ sliding dropouts + 5mm offset stays
Modern drivetrain compatibility meets real-world utility. The Unity runs SRAM T-Type and UDH, and the sliding dropouts let you fine-tune wheel position or run it single-speed in a pinch. Offset stays keep tire and rack clearance on point.

Multiple accessory mounts everywhere you want them
Bosses on the top tube, down tube, fork legs, and stays give you endless modular set-up options. Bottles, cargo cages, tool carriers, if you can bolt it on, the Unity’s ready for it.
