Let us speak on something; please send positive thoughts to Lucha Libre legend Konnan. The man once dubbed “The Hulk Hogan of Mexico” has dealt with a litany of health issues over the last few years. Latest reports from Mexico indicate that Konnan amputated his leg yesterday after dealing with health complications. Konnan’s leg removal makes him the second WCW star in the last year, as Buff Bagwell also had a recent leg amputation. Here’s the latest news on Konnan’s leg amputation.
Konnan Amputates Leg In San Diego
AAA Booker Konnan will be sidelined from his producer duties for the foreseeable future. The former nWo member is currently hospitalized in San Diego.
Rumors are that the Lucha Libre icon had been dealing with undisclosed health problems that led to his hospital visit. Unfortunately, Konnan’s health took a turn for the worse, resulting in a dire decision that left the former WCW US Champion without a leg.
It’s unknown as to why Konnan’s leg was amputated at the moment. These kinds of situations can be common in instances of blood clots, especially if he were to undergo surgery. Konnan has a history of hip surgeries, as well as a litany of other health problems.
Konnan’s Medical History
Konnan’s leg amputation is just the latest in a series of health setbacks the Wolfpac member has endured this past decade. Carlos Santiago Espada, the man behind Konnan, had his first kidney transplant in 2007.
The former spokesman for LAX seemed to bounce back for almost 15 years. He even wrestled a handful of matches over the years. His last in-ring performance came for MLW Battle Riot in 2019.
Like many others in the world, COVID-19 took a toll on Carlos’ health. Around 2021, he developed kidney issues yet again. This time, his health issues were compounded by various cardiac episodes, respiratory problems, and the COVID-19 virus. Many believed that Konnan was going to pass away. However, the Mexican Hulk Hogan kicked out at 2!
Konnan bounced back as best as possible. He once again got involved in AAA, even making some appearances on TV. In fact, Konnan was even present to induct Rey Mysterio into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023.
In 2024, Konnan developed diverticulitis. This is the same illness that took out the likes of Kenny Omega and Brock Lesnar. While battling the condition, Konnan developed sepsis, once again looking at death’s door.
Still, Konnan pushed through. He’s still been loosely involved in booking AAA, supporting The Undertaker in maintaining the culture in Lucha Libre. However, Dominik Mysterio’s godfather is going to be sidelined for a bit. We wish Konnan a speedy recovery!
