John Korir won the Boston 2025 and Chicago 2024 marathons. He then had a rough race, a DNF at the Chicago Marathon. As his coach, Ron Mann told me, sometimes athletes have tough races!
John Korir came through on December 7, 2025, and ran a PB as well as a win in Valencia!
Well done John!
I just saw John’s brother, Wesely, at the Running Event. Wesley Korir won the Boston marathon in 2012!

VALENCIA (ESP, Dec 7): Boston champion John Korir improved his lifetime best by 20 seconds to 2:02:24 (61:47/60:37), missing the world leading mark by just eight seconds, and dominated the men’s race. Despite a big winning margin, also other runners delivered fast times and national records with the World silver medallist Amanal Petros of Germany second (2:04:03 EL/NR, moving to 3 in European all-time lists), ahead of debuting Norwegian Awet Nftalem Kibrab (2:04:24 NR) and Suguru Osako of Japan (2:04:55 NR). Superb performance by British triathlon Olympic champion Alexander Yee, improving by almost 5 minutes in his second marathon and finishing sixth (2:06:38), ahead of Felix Bour of France (2:06:41) and Dutchman Filmon Tesfu (2:06:42), both with lifetime bests.
