Kris Statlander says there’s a reason why she’s showing a bit more “confidence” in the ring lately.
During the AEW Worlds End post-show media scrum, Kris Statlander was asked about spitting in her opponent’s face during her match, and her new attitude as of late. Statlander, the AEW Women’s World Champion, not only confirmed that she intentionally did it, but also explained her mentality in doing so.
“I will start off by saying that you are not mistaken with what you saw. I did do that. However, one thing that has changed is I’ve said it a few times now—my sob story is over,” Kris Statlander said. “I am not an underdog, I feel like my whole build to becoming champion, people were still like, ‘Maybe one day it’ll be her moment’ but now, I am proving that my moment is now.”
Kris Statlander wants to bring the fire out of her opponents
Kris Statlander said that she has every right to be as confident as she is. She said she was trying to aggravate Hayter and bring out a more aggressive side, teasing that she’d do the same to future opponents as well.
“And I told Jamie leading into this match, she was a former champion, she knows what it’s like to be on top and I was in the same place as her,” she continued. “I feel like me being a little more—not aggressive, but I was trying to antagonize her, in a way. To bring that champion spirit back out of her because I’m all about meeting me at my level, meeting me at the champion’s level. And I’m just trying to bring that fire out of her and every other person that wants a shot, really.”
