Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has stressed the urgent need to appoint a new Black Stars head coach, insisting that time is of the essence as preparations intensify for upcoming international assignments.
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Okraku emphasised that the FA is working to finalise the appointment within the next two weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
The earlier we get a new man in place, the better for all of us because the new man needs time to know the players, to start to engage the players, to warm up to the players. I’m sure within one week, two weeks, we should have a new man in place and we should be ready for the next camp,” he said.
Following Otto Addo’s departure, the FA has been actively reviewing a large pool of applicants, with both local and foreign coaches expressing interest in the role. The need to stabilise the team quickly has become a top priority, with the World Cup just months away.
The new coach will have limited time to assess the squad and implement tactical ideas before the next international break. Ghana are scheduled to face Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 in high-profile friendlies before opening their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
Okraku’s comments underscore the FA’s determination to avoid delays in the transition process. With the Black Stars drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, the next appointment will be critical to Ghana’s hopes of making an impact on the global stage.
