Kusal Mendis Throws Helmet as Virat Kohli gets Saved from LBW

India failed to chase a target of 241 against Sri Lanka and faced a 32-run defeat in 2nd ODI. After the 1st match got tie, India was still expected to go 1-0 up in the series.

Virat Kohli had a below-par outing with the bat and could only manage to score 14 off 19 balls. The former Indian captain was struggling against spinners and was given an LBW when he was on 13.

Kohli took his time to challenge umpire’s decision and asked for a review. The replays shows there was a spike when the ball was crossing the bat, meaning there was an inside edge and the ball had clearly touched the bat, resulting in Virat turning the decision given by the on-ground umpire. The third umpire’s decision left the Sri Lankan players surprised and Kusal Mendis was clearly frustrated with this.

The wicketkeeper-batsman took off his helmet and threw it in frustration. The members of Sri Lankan coaching staff were also starstruck as the on-field umpire’s decision was overturned.

Virat only could score one more run and got off for 14 off 19 balls. His stumps got taken off by Jeffery Vandersay. Vandersay got sic wickets and spent 33 runs in his 10-over spell.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill provided a quick star to India as they added 97 runs. Rohit hit 64 off 44 balls while Shubhman scored 35 runs. India once again made a change in the batting order and Shivam Dube came in at number 4.

Axar Patel, who batted at number 5, kept India’s hopes afloat as he scored 44 runs. Apart from him, Rohit and Shubhman, other batters could not do anything and India lost the game.

The 3rd ODI of the series will be on August 7 (Wednesday). India has to win the last game if they do not want to lose against the host.
