Kyler Murray has one clear message after signing with Vikings

Kyler Murray is betting on himself with the Minnesota Vikings.

The former Arizona Cardinals star knows this might be his final shot to prove that he can lead a franchise, and he’s not going to waste it.

That’s why he had but one clear message in his introductory press conference: He’s going for the QB1 job.

When asked what he could bring to the table, he showed the utmost confidence in his skills and what he’s capable of.

Kyler Murray is ready to take the starting QB job

“I know what my skill set brings to the game. I know what I’m capable of,” the former No. 1 pick told reporters. “I’m ready to come in to compete. I can’t wait to be under his tutelage and get to go to war with not only (Justin Jefferson), but (head coach Kevin O’Connell) too.”

The Vikings went from winning 14 games with Sam Darnold to just nine last season. McCarthy missed seven games after missing his entire rookie season, and he wasn’t that promising when he was healthy enough to play.

Murray comes with some baggage and injury concerns of his own, but he’s undeniably gifted and athletic.

Kevin O’Connell’s offense is all about progressions, and Murray’s ability to go off-script, extend plays and make things happen on the run will give the team another offensive dimension it hasn’t had in years.

Murray knows this is his chance, and he’s going to take the bull by the horns. He’s not there to mentor McCarthy or to hype him up; he’s there to take his job and secure a long-term contract.
