Lallianzuala Chhangte Appointed as Mumbai City FC Captain

Mumbai City FC has appointed Lallianzuala Chhangte as the new captain for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season. The announcement, made on Sunday, September 1, 2024, marks a significant milestone in Chhangte’s career, as he steps into the role previously held by Rahul Bheke. Bheke, who led the Islanders to an ISL trophy victory last season, has returned to Bengaluru FC, paving the way for Chhangte to take up the captaincy.

Chhangte’s Journey with Mumbai City FC

Since joining Mumbai City FC in January 2022, Chhangte has been a key player for the team.

In his 79 appearances, he has scored 29 goals and provided 16 assists, making him one of the most consistent performers in the league.

His ability to contribute crucial goals and assists has been instrumental in the Islanders’ successes over the past two seasons.

Last season, Chhangte became the first Indian player in ISL history to record more than 15 goal contributions in back-to-back seasons, highlighting his consistent form and impact on the field.

Chhangte’s journey with Mumbai City FC has been marked by significant achievements.

In the 2022-23 season, he played a crucial role in helping the team secure the ISL League Winners’ Shield.

The following season, his performances were pivotal in the team’s triumph in the ISL Cup, underscoring his importance to the squad.

Looking Ahead to the ISL 2024-25 Season

As Mumbai City FC prepares for the upcoming ISL season, Chhangte’s leadership will be put to the test.

The Islanders are set to open their campaign with a repeat of last season’s final, facing off against Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on September 13, 2024.

With Chhangte at the helm, the team will aim to replicate its previous successes and defend its title.

Chhangte’s appointment as captain is not only a recognition of his past performances but also a vote of confidence in his ability to lead the team in the future.

His leadership on the field, combined with his scoring prowess, will be crucial as Mumbai City FC navigates the challenges of the new season.
