Last ball 4 runs, Australian batters fumble as Draw turns into loss for Tasmania when facing South Australia

All the three types of results were possible but a fumble in the Tasmania’s lower order batters Lawrence Neil-Smith and Riley Meredith caused them losing the match.

The spectators at the Bellerive Oval, Hobarat have witnessed a last-ball match-turning moment in the match between Tasmania and South Australia. The Sheffield Shield 2024-25 game was an intense one till the last ball. All the three types of results, i.e. a win, tie or a loss, were possible but a fumble in the Tasmania’s lower order batters Lawrence Neil-Smith and Riley Meredith caused them losing the match.

In the last over, Tasmania was in need of seven runs to win the match with two wickets remaining. Wes Agar was the player who got the responsibility to defend the target.

On the first delivery, Neil-Smith took a single. Gabe Bell then took a dot delivery followed by a three-ball duck. Meredith then came to bat and took a single. Neil-Smith could only manage to take a single on the penultimate ball. On the last ball, Meredith was given a tough task as he had to hit a boundary.

The match turning out to be a draw was also on the line, however, both the batters got mixed-up in decisions and it caused in a run-out. Tasmania got bowled out for 426 and lost by just two runs.

Tasmania were looking in a good position as they were at 400/5, but the team saw a collapse in batting. Nathan McAndrew and Wes Agar were the two pacers who turned the game upside down in the final overs of the match.
