For months, WWE tried to secure both Penta and Rey Fenix from AEW. However, Tony Khan didn’t release Fenix before Penta’s WWE debut. Since then, WWE fans have waited a long time for a Lucha Brothers Reunion. AAA was set to host the reunion of Penta and Rey Fenix at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes in Arena Guadalajara on December 20th. The reunion of the Lucha Brothers has been up in the air following Penta’s injury against Solo Sikoa. Penta cleared the air, and it’s not looking good for a Lucha Brothers reunion.
Penta Gives Injury Update
On the November 24th episode of Raw, Penta faced Solo Sikoa in the Time Is Now Tournament in hopes of being John Cena’s final opponent. However, Penta was never able to compete for that opportunity. In the heat of the battle, Penta El Zero Miedo went down with a shoulder injury.
As the match reached a climax, the two competitors took it outside. It was there that Penta used the ring barrier to connect with Solo Sikoa for a Hurricanrana. Unfortunately for the luchador, Penta crashed down on his shoulder. Officials checked on the Lucha Brother and deemed him unable to continue. Ultimately, Solo Sikoa went on to clash with Gunther, who not only beat the Samoan but also defeated John Cena in his final match.
While Penta was most likely going to lose to Gunther, WWE officials were still hopeful he’d make it to Arena Guadalajara for Guerra de Titanes. Sadly for Lucha Brothers fans, that’s not the case.
Rey Mysterio Replaces Penta for AAA Tag Team Match
Penta took to Instagram to announce that he was not cleared to compete this Saturday. Doctors and Penta were hopeful that he could rehab the shoulder injury in time. Unfortunately, time won out, and Penta needed to find a replacement.
While fans may be sad about missing a Lucha Brother reunion, they’re going to be treated to a father-son butt-whipping. That’s because Penta announced Rey Mysterio will replace him to team with Rey Fenix to take on El Grande Americano and Dominik Mysterio.
Rey Mysterio replacing Penta is rather fitting. Rey Fenix replaced an injured Rey Mysterio to take on Santos Escobar at WrestleMania 41 Saturday. Now, Rey Mysterio can pay it forward by stepping in for Fenix’s brother and team with his WrestleMania replacement himself.
Penta announced:
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! 🇲🇽🔥
See you on @luchalibreaaa TITANS WAR!!!
Vs
@dominik_35 🖕🏻 & @elgrandeamericanowwe
💥💥💥💥
Based on Penta’s announcement, it seems like the Mexican sensation will be onhand for the event. He just won’t be able to wrestle. While Lucha Brothers fans were excited to see them reunite (in Mexico, nonetheless), finally, it wasn’t meant to be this time.
However, WWE officials are confident Penta will be in action soon. Perhaps, then, it will be the right time for a Lucha Brother reunion.
How to Watch Guerra de Titanes
Much like TripleMania, watching AAA Guerra de Titanes isn’t the same as any other WWE event. You can watch this show on the AAA YouTube Channel on Saturday.
AAA is currently in a rights deal with Space in Mexico. Therefore, AAA content in Mexico can be available on HBO Max. If you want to use HBO Max to watch AAA in America, you might need to use a VPN. To learn how to watch WWE events with A VPN, tap here.
Soon, AAA events will be on FOX Mexico. WWE’s return to FOX for countries South of the Border begins on January 17th. So while helpful for the next big event, this won’t be useful for the December 20th Guerra de Titanes showdown.
