Lex Luger’s comeback story has already defied the odds, but according to Diamond Dallas Page, the WWE Hall of Famer recently faced another serious health hurdle.
During an interview on The Wrestling Classic, DDP opened up about Luger dealing with atrial fibrillation, commonly known as A-Fib, and the complications that followed. Page revealed that both he and Luger experienced A-Fib around the same time, explaining just how dangerous the condition can be.
“It’s so funny because me and Lex both got A-Fib like three months apart. And A-Fib is when your heart starts to have an irregular beat. And if that’s going to happen, you must be on blood thinners because you don’t want to form any clots, because clots lead to a stroke and can kill you.”
The situation became even more serious after Luger suffered a fall following the emotional high of his WWE Hall of Fame induction. According to DDP, the accident played a major role in why Luger wasn’t able to walk across the stage that night.
“The reason why he didn’t walk across the stage with me was because he was getting into his chair. The driver came around but he didn’t hold it and it came out from under him and he hit the concrete.”
For someone with Luger’s spinal history, a fall like that is no small issue. Page didn’t sugarcoat the reality of Luger’s condition, while also crediting his mental toughness.
“Spasms — and that’s one of the things you have to understand about Lex’s injury. Lex should be a quadriplegic, but he’s not. And a lot of that has to do with the will of Lex Luger.”
Because of the blood thinners required for A-Fib treatment, training had to come to a complete halt. Page made it clear that pushing too hard could have life-threatening consequences.
“When you’re on blood thinners, the last thing you want to do is tear or cut, because you could bleed out. And then you’re dead. So you’ve got to be really careful.”
DDP stepped in to help fast-track medical care, explaining how difficult it can be to navigate the system.
“It’s so hard to get doctors today with all the MyChart and all the stuff you’ve got to go through. But I was lucky because there are wrestling fans out there and they give a damn. They got me to the doc and Doc brought him right in.”
The good news? The procedure went well, and Luger is preparing to resume workouts — cautiously. Still, DDP is refusing to rush the process.
“Everything went really good. And now we’re literally going to work out next week. It’ll be the first day back. Now he’s been doing easy things like standing or a little bit of movement, but hasn’t been actively training.”
“I’m not going to push Lex too hard until he gets off the blood thinners.”
And when Luger is fully cleared, the plan won’t be reckless intensity — it’ll be steady progress.
“Then it won’t be pedal to the metal, but we’ll progress each time.”
Luger’s journey has already included paralysis, relearning how to stand, and taking steps many thought would never happen. Now, with A-Fib in the mix, the comeback continues — carefully and methodically.
Diamond Dallas Page has built a second career around helping wrestling legends reclaim their health. With Luger back in the gym soon, fans will once again be watching closely to see how far “The Total Package” can push the odds.
