Lhuan-dre Pretorius Stars in Paarl Royals’ Victory Over MI Cape Town in Cape Derby

Lhuan-dre Pretorius showcased his burgeoning talent once again, leading Paarl Royals to a thrilling six-wicket victory over MI Cape Town in the Cape Derby at Boland Park. The 18-year-old’s explosive 83 off 52 balls, featuring three sixes and eight boundaries, propelled the Royals to successfully chase down MI Cape Town’s target of 158/4.

Pretorius, already a fan favorite after his impressive debut, capitalized on two dropped catches to steer his team to victory. His aggressive batting, particularly against left-arm spinner George Linde, was a highlight of the match. Pretorius was eventually run out by a direct hit from MI Cape Town’s captain Rashid Khan, but by then, the damage was done.

David Miller, the Royals’ captain, finished the job with an unbeaten 22, ensuring a comfortable win.

Earlier, Rassie van der Dussen played a lone hand for MI Cape Town, scoring an unbeaten 91 off 64 balls. Despite Reeza Hendricks’ 30, the visitors struggled against the Royals’ spin trio. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman (2/27), Dunith Wellalage (0/17), and Joe Root (1/24) exploited the spin-friendly conditions, stifling MI Cape Town’s middle order.

This victory lifts Paarl Royals into joint second place with Joburg Super Kings, both on eight points, while MI Cape Town remains at the top with nine points, having played one more game.
