Liverpool face a daunting visit to face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night.
Arne Slot’s side will arrive in the French capital just days after their dismal 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup, in which Erling Haaland netted a hat-trick.
The Reds also remain in the hunt for a top four finish in the Premier League, with a place in next season’s Champions League at stake.
At present, Slot’s side occupy fifth place, but they have potentially tricky matches against Manchester United and Chelsea ahead in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, though, it has emerged that the Merseyside giants have been in contact with the representatives of a highly rated Premier League midfielder.
As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool have held talks with the agency that represents West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The report claims that the reigning Premier League champions hold an interest in the 21-year-old, and have therefore discussed a possible move this summer.
Fernandes joined the Hammers from Southampton last summer, following the Saints’ relegation to the Championship.
He has since impressed at The London Stadium, making a total of 31 appearances for West Ham across all competitions.
While Arsenal and Manchester City are also said to have shown interest in the Portuguese, it is claimed that neither of those sides have yet formalised their interest and it is Liverpool who have so far sounded out interest over a possible move.
Fernandes – who made his senior international debut for Portugal in April – is contracted to the Hammers until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, having put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal when he swapped St. Mary’s for The London Stadium last summer.
