Liverpool now sit level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table after a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds looked set to have to settle for a single point at The City Ground as both sides struggled in front of goal, but midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s strike deep into added time earned Arne Slot’s side a pivotal victory and three crucial points in the race for Champions League qualification.
The reigning champions remain sixth in the Premier League table, but are level on points with the Blues, who occupy fourth place.
Next up for Liverpool is a game against relegation-threatened West Ham United on Saturday, before a trip to face 20th-placed Wolves.
In the meantime, it has emerged that Liverpool are keeping tabs on a Premier League defender.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool are monitoring Leeds United defender Jaka Bijol as they search for new additions in defence.
The Slovenian defender joined Leeds from Italian outlet Udinese last summer and is currently enjoying an impressive debut campaign at Elland Road.

The centre-back has so far made 17 appearances across all competitions, including 14 in the Premier League.
According to the report, the Reds are looking for a defender capable of taking on a leadership role in Slot’s defence.
Their interest in Bijol comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of current defender Ibrahima Konate, who is in the final six months of his current contract and hasn’t yet agreed a new deal.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a number of clubs, and looks increasingly likely to depart Anfield this summer.
Bijol, 27, is contracted to the Whites until the summer of 2030, but the report suggests that Liverpool have identified the player as a possible transfer target ahead of the upcoming window.
