Liverpool host League One side Barnsley in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday evening.
The Reds have endured a frustrating season so far, with the defence of their Premier League title almost entirely derailed by a dismal run of form during October and November.
Arne Slot’s side held Premier League leaders Arsenal to a goalless draw in their latest league outing on Thursday night, and the Dutchman will expect to see his side progress past the Tykes and secure their place in the FA Cup fourth round.
In the meantime, it has emerged that one key member of Slot’s squad is set to sign a new deal with the Merseyside outfit.
As per CaughtOffside, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is set to sign a new contract with the club having snubbed interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The report claims that the Hungary international was the subject of interest from German champions Bayern Munich and Spanish giants Real Madrid, but the midfielder has now agreed a deal in principle to extend his stay with the Reds.

Szoboszlai’s current deal with Liverpool is set to expire in the summer of 2028 so, although there was no urgent need to agree an extension, the Premier League champions were keen to finalise a deal in order to fend off interest from elsewhere.
The 25-year-old joined the Reds from German side RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and has since made more than 120 appearances for the club across all competitions.
He played an instrumental role for Liverpool as they lifted the Premier League title last term, featuring in 36 of their 38 league games, and has continued to play a crucial role for the Merseysiders this term.
The Hungarian midfielder has already made 27 appearances so far this season, scoring five goals and providing the same number of assists.
