Liverpool’s ‘7-man Shortlist’ For Wingers

Liverpool’s ‘7-man Shortlist’ For Wingers

Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure is reportedly among Liverpool’s wide summer transfer targets, but he is far from the only option.

Mohamed Salah‘s imminent exit will leave a gaping void at Anfield, with the 33-year-old recording 20 goals and assists for nine consecutive seasons.

It is imperative that Liverpool not only replace Salah in the summer transfer window, but also for Luis Diaz after the Colombian wasn’t replaced last summer, either.

According to the Mail, Liverpool have “kept a watching brief” on Toure, following a season that has seen him register eight Bundesliga assists.

The 20-year-old has been used more regularly on the left wing, but his versatility also allows him to shine on Salah’s preferred right flank.

At international level, Toure has already scored twice in five caps for the Ivory Coast, and will hope to shine at the 2026 World Cup.

He’s described as being very fast and excellent on the counter attack, and certainly looks to fit the profile of player Liverpool target.

Who else are Liverpool eyeing alongside Toure?

Meanwhile, the same report mentions a host of other potential alternatives to Toure, with Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao “monitored” by Liverpool scouts.

The 23-year-old has been less productive, though, only bagging four assists in Serie A in 2025/26 to date.

Then there’s Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, with the latter out of the World Cup with Brazil through injury. Those seem more unrealistic options.

Incidentally, Barcola is now reported to be fit to return from injury for Tuesday’s trip to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh gets a mention, too, with the 21-year-old a player with the Salah of old’s raw pace and ability to cut inside onto his left foot.

He’s also previously worked with Arne Slot at Feyenoord, which is said to work in his favour.

It is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande who remains the reported first choice for Liverpool, but the Bundesliga side will not sell him “on the cheap” and want to tie him down to a new deal.

Newcastle and England man Anthony Gordon is the seventh player named, and will “inevitably be linked” with the Reds after interest emerged in 2024 and 2025.

Who will Liverpool ultimately replace Mo Salah with this summer?

Opinion is naturally likely to be split over who the best choice is to replace Salah at Liverpool, but it’s good to see so many options being mentioned.

For many, including Reds legend Steven Gerrard, Bayern Munich‘s Michael Olise is the most exciting option, but it is very hard to see a move being sorted.

The £87.3 million-rated Diomande arguably feels like the next-best choice, given the 19-year-old’s long-term ceiling, following 11 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga this season.

That said, Toure and the others mentioned all have their merits as wide players, and it will be fascinating to see who ends up being tasked with filling the Salah-shaped void.
