In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), a big issue arose when Lucknow Super Giants’ owner Sanjeev Goenka was seen arguing with team captain KL Rahul after they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad easily won the game by scoring 166 runs in just 9.4 overs without losing any wickets. After the game, Goenka spoke angrily to Rahul, and this conversation became a major topic among fans and experts. In a talk on YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra’s show ‘Unplugged’, Lucknow Super Giants’ spinner Amit Mishra discussed the incident and shared some new information about what happened between Rahul and Goenka.
“Goenka felt let down. We had two tough losses in a row. We lost to KKR by about 90-100 runs and to SRH in just 10 overs. It seemed like we were just helping them practice. If I’m upset about it, imagine how someone who invested in the team must feel,” Amit Mishra shared on the podcast.
“It wasn’t a big issue. But I heard he mentioned that our bowling was poor and we should have put up more of a fight. It seemed like we gave up completely. However, I think people and the media made too much of it,” he continued, talking about the KL Rahul-Sanjiv Goenka dispute.
Many reports hinted that KL Rahul might not stay with LSG before IPL 2025, but neither the team nor the player has made an official announcement.
“Whether he’s part of the Indian team isn’t important. The captain should be someone who has the right mindset for T20 games and who plays for the team. I believe LSG will choose a better captain,” Mishra said when asked if KL Rahul would continue as LSG’s leader.
