The main event picture for WrestleMania 42 is now officially locked in, and the biggest matches for both nights of WWE’s annual showcase have been revealed.
After weeks of chaos and storyline developments on WWE programming, the ticket section on WWE’s official website has confirmed what many fans already expected. The Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton will headline Night One of WrestleMania 42, while the World Heavyweight Championship clash between CM Punk and Roman Reigns will close out Night Two.
The announcement follows a segment on SmackDown that saw Orton completely snap during a contract signing with Rhodes ahead of their title match. What began as a formal signing quickly turned into one of the most brutal beatdowns on WWE television this year.
After shaking Rhodes’ hand, Orton struck with a low blow before launching into a relentless attack. The former champion threw Rhodes across the announce table, drove his head into steel steps that had been propped against the desk, and left Rhodes busted open before officials rushed to the ring.
By the time SmackDown went off the air, Orton was sitting in the ring with the championship while Rhodes was left laid out after the assault. The fallout from that moment now carries even more weight with confirmation that Rhodes and Orton will headline Night One of WrestleMania 42.
Meanwhile, the second night of the event will be capped off by another massive title bout as CM Punk defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns. The two megastars have been on a collision course for months, and their rivalry is now officially set to close the biggest weekend of the year.
With four world championship matches already announced and a major open challenge from Brock Lesnar still waiting for an opponent, WrestleMania 42 is shaping up to be one of the most stacked cards WWE has assembled in recent years.
The event will take place April 18 and April 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Both nights will begin at 6 p.m. ET, with streaming available through ESPN Unlimited in the United States and Netflix in international markets. With the main events now confirmed for both nights, the Road to WrestleMania just took another major step forward as WWE continues to finalize the biggest show of the year.
