Major player will miss start of the series

New Zealand cricket team announced their Test squad for the three-Test series against India, scheduled to begin October 16. After Tim Southee got taken down from the captaincy, Tom Latham will lead the side. Though, former captain Kane Williamson might also miss his chance to play in the first Test of the 3-match series, as he experienced discomfort in his groin during the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka.

The advice we’ve received is that the best course of action is for Kane to rest and rehabilitate now rather than risk aggravating the injury. We’re hopeful that if the rehabilitation goes to plan Kane will be available for the latter part of the tour,” said Sam Wells, the New Zealand selector.

While it’s obviously disappointing to not have Kane available from the start of the tour, it provides an opportunity for someone else to play a role in an important series.”

Spin bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been brought in as the substitute for Kane. As Williamson will miss the first Test, Bracewell is taken in the squad as of now.
