Elliotte Friedman delivered an interesting bit of news when it comes to the Colorado Avalanche and what they might be planning to do at this season’s trade deadline. Asked if there could be a reunion with Nazem Kadri — the sentimental theory — Friedman hesitated while speaking on the TNT panel. He asked what sounded like a rhetorical question when he threw out the softball, “What do you think the Makar number is going to be?
Friedman had the answer already locked and loaded.
When Paul Bissonnette suggested $18 or $19 million per season, Friedman added:
“Everything that Colorado does is about that Makar number. Everything that they do is about that number. Whenever it comes to a player with term and whenever I’ve asked around about what they’re up to, it’s always about protecting themselves from Makar’s number.”

Friedman added that he didn’t think the Calgary Flames are crazy about the idea of retaining salary on Kadri “So, unless Colorado’s going to be able to find a way to make that work or have the number not be as high, I think it’s going to be really tough.” He added, “One of the centers I heard that could end up in Colorado is Scott Laughton, and he would be more of a rental.”
Friedman likes the idea of Kadri back in Colorado, but logistically, he just doesn’t see it.
Does The Trocheck Rumor Change the Avs Plans?
In the same interview, Friedman said he believes Minnesota is going to for Vincent Trocheck, and they have a standing offer for him. “I think Trocheck is the guy on their list. I think they’ve got something out there, and it’s up to the Rangers to make this decision. Do they go with the Wild’s offer or could they go somewhere else?”
If the Wild lands Trocheck, it will be interesting to see if the Avalanche feels the need to keep pace ahead of March 6. The Wild are already strong, and Trocheck would make them stronger. The Avs would be looking at a matchup with the Wild, and improving would be imperative.
