Making his Test debut for India, This player then played for Pakistan

Only a few players have represented both the countries throughout the history of the game. Though many others have played for countries which is not their own, the number is quite low for India and Pakistan.

Amir Elahi was one of those cricketers to have appeared for both India and Pakistan. Amir Elahi was a renowned player who played Tests for both India and Pakistan, His debut in Test cricket was marked against Australia, in 1947. During his career, he played a total of 6 Tests. Five of them were for Pakistan and one for his former team, India. When he was 44, he played his last test during first tour of India.

Before his Test debut, Elahi took part in tour of England with Indian team in 1936, where he showed his bowling prowess and took 17 wickets averaging at 42.94. His performance however, in the 1947-48 tour of Australia was not so impressive, he took only 8 wickets at an average of 65.87.

Joining Pakistan after independence, Elahi joined Pakistan team and contributed significantly to their success. He played an important role in their tour of India in 1952-53, as he took 13 wickets averaging at 38.76. Amir Elahi was a well known figure in Indian cricket even before the formation of Pakistan.
