The Utah Mammoth have announced forward Logan Cooley will be out a minimum of eight weeks with a lower-body injury. Cooley crashed into the net against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday and hit his leg on the post.
Obviously, this is a significant loss for the Mammoth.
As bad as the news is, things could have been worse. Utah avoided a significantly longer injury with Cooley, as the incident initially looked far more serious. It’s his second knee scare in a week, but again, no major structural damage.
Cooley has been Utah’s top scorer with 14 goals, and without him the Mammoth have lost three straight, sinking to 14-15-3 amid one of the league’s worst stretches since late October. Since Oct. 28, the Mammoth are 6-13-3 (.341).
