Man killed while biking on SR 702 identified as Ty Curtis, 55 – Seattle Bike Blog

Ty Addison Curtis from Puyallup was biking near McKenna just east of the Nisqually River in south Pierce County when a person driving struck and killed him January 22. He was 55.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Curtis was biking on SR 702 near SR 507 shortly after 6:30 p.m. January 22. The incident summary says he was riding eastbound on the westbound side of the highway when a 45-year-old from Anchorage, Alaska, struck Curtis while driving a Hyundai Sonata. Curtis landed in the eastbound lane and was declared dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and was not charged, though the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The roadway, also known as McKenna Tanwax and 352nd Street S, is a two-lane roadway with no sidewalk and inconsistent shoulders.
