Manchester United return to action on Sunday afternoon when they face Aston Villa.

The two sides are both battling to finish in the top four of the Premier League and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League, and Sunday’s match could prove crucial in that race.

Michael Carrick has enjoyed an impressive start to his tenure as the Red Devils’ caretaker head coach, although he did suffer a first defeat last time out against Newcastle United.

Now, it has emerged that United are interested in a Newcastle player that has been in fine form over the past couple of seasons.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United have identified Bruno Guimaraes as a possible target as they search for a long-term successor to Casemiro.

It is claimed that Casemiro is likely to leave Old Trafford this summer, despite continuing to play a key role for United.

With that in mind, those in charge of United’s recruitment are eyeing possible replacements, and it is claimed that Guimaraes has emerged as a possible target.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from French side Lyon in 2022 and has since established himself as a key player for the North East giants.

In total the 28-year-old has made 189 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions, scoring 31 goals and providing the same number of assists.

So far this season the Brazilian has featured 35 times, including 23 matches in the Premier League.

Several clubs from across Europe are said to have been keeping tabs on the Brazil international, who is contracted to Newcastle until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Despite interest from elsewhere, it is claimed that the Magpies are keen to secure the midfielder’s long-term future and are prepared to offer him a longer-term deal on improved terms.
