Darren Fletcher will take charge of Manchester United for their trip to Burnley on Wednesday night following the departure of Ruben Amorim on Monday.

The Portuguese was sacked on Monday morning less than 24 hours after the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United.

Following the game, Amorim claimed that he was the ‘manager, not the head coach’ at Old Trafford, before also revealing his plans to depart the club when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Instead, those in charge of the club have acted and dismissed the former Sporting CP boss, who endured a dismal tenure in Manchester and leaves his side sixth in the Premier League.

Now, ahead of Wednesday’s visit to Turf Moor, it has emerged that one member of United’s squad has made a u-turn on his own future at the club.

As reported by indykaila News, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has withdrawn his transfer request at Old Trafford.

The England international had attempted to force a loan move away from United during last summer’s transfer window, but he ultimately stayed put.

So far this season, however, he has made just 12 appearances across all competitions and is yet to start a single Premier League game.

It is claimed that Mainoo – who enjoyed a meteoric rise from United’s academy to establishing himself as one of the best young midfielders in Europe – will now consider his future in the wake of Amorim’s sacking.

Previously, the midfielder has been pushing to depart Old Trafford during the current January transfer window, but it is claimed that he will now stay put at United and assess what the future holds.

Mainoo will be understandably keen to play regularly ahead of the second half of the season, in an effort to maximise his chances of being included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup in the United States this summer.
