When looking back at last season for Manchester United in the Premier League, the problems appear evident, particularly in the forward line.
Indeed, no player ended the campaign in double figures for league goals, while only Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes got above six in the top-flight.
While a truly prolific presence is still lacking this time around, it’s largely been a different story in 2025/26, and with seven games still to play, with Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo leading the way on nine goals, ahead of Fernandes, Casemiro and Matheus Cunha.

It is to INEOS’ credit that three of the top five scorers this season at Old Trafford are those they brought in during a stellar summer of spending last year, with such success stories needing to be repeated when this season comes to a close.
Man Utd burst into race to sign Premier League sensation
Ruben Amorim may have endured a largely forgettable 14-month spell in charge in Manchester, although what the Portuguese can take credit for is overseeing a real clearout last summer, with United’s raft of attacking departures not exactly setting the world alight this season.
Garnacho has scored just one Premier League goal at Chelsea, while Jadon Sancho hasn’t netted at all in the top-flight on loan at Aston Villa.
In Spain, meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Antony have just four and seven LaLiga goals, respectively, albeit with Rasmus Hojlund having scored ten Serie A goals back in Italy.
INEOS won’t be losing sleep over any of those exits, with attention now turning toward further reinforcements, amid reports that United are now in the race for Villa talisman, Morgan Rogers.
According to reports relayed by Caught Offside, the England international has decided to leave the Midlands side this summer, with the likes of Arsenal and United among the clubs said to be on high alert.
The 23-year-old is looking to make that next step in his career, although the Villans won’t let him go on the cheap, with the piece claiming that he would cost as much as £100m – thus eclipsing the Red Devils’ current record deal for Paul Pogba.
Why Rogers would be an upgrade on Cunha and Mbeumo
There’s no denying it’s been a fine first season for both Cunha and Mbeumo, with the latter man having delivered on the big occasion time and again, netting away at Anfield, the Emirates and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well as in the Manchester derby back in January.
He wants to join: Man Utd chase Cunha upgrade who’s “like Amad & Mbeumo”
He’s been in excellent form this season.
As for the Brazilian, a quiet start has been followed by a real explosion under Michael Carrick’s watch, having notably scored away at Arsenal himself, alongside further goals against both Fulham and Villa in 2026.
The two 26-year-olds, as was hoped, have hit the ground running in a United shirt, with INEOS reaping the rewards of their decision to push for Premier League-proven talent last summer.
In the case of Rogers, the Old Trafford hierarchy could potentially land an even bigger top-flight superstar, with the one-time Manchester City man having looked “unstoppable” at times in recent seasons, as per Jamie Carragher.
The Villa Park hero notably stole the show when the two sides met in December, scoring twice in stunning fashion to clinch a 2-1 win for the hosts, cutting in off the left to devastating effect.
The goals have dried up somewhat since then, although the Three Lions star still boasts 13 goals and assists in the Premier League this season, ahead of Mbeumo’s return of 12 and Cunha’s tally of nine.
In front of goal, it is Rogers who appears to be the more clinical presence, having only missed three big chances thus far, again bettering both Mbeumo (ten) and Cunha (four).
As for his creative prowess, the ex-Middlesbrough man has already supplied ten ‘big chances’ to his Villa teammates, more than his United counterparts have achieved combined (eight).
This is no flash in the pan either, with Rogers ending 2024/25 with 18 goals and assists, after creating 16 ‘big chances’ in what was just his first full Premier League campaign.
Still only 23, the £100m man is a player of sky-high potential, while his ability to operate centrally, off the left or even as a false nine makes him such a worthwhile addition.
Midfield might be INEOS’ priority heading into the summer, yet having seen the likes of Declan Rice move on to Arsenal in recent times, United can’t afford to miss out on another English sensation in the making.
