Speaking of their future after India’s disastrous Test series against Australia: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had much to talk about. They both flopped big time, and in few days’ time, they were being criticized heavily by the fans as well as the experts. The situation had reached such a level that reports in the media suggested that there was talk about excluding them for future Test series. However, the former Indian cricket team star Manoj Tiwary says head coach Gautam Gambhir will not have the courage to drop either Rohit or Virat, but that such decisions would be completely their own.
In three innings, Rohit managed a paltry 31 runs, and hence it was decided – during the Last Test at Sydney – that the captain shall drop himself. Although there were hints that this is a team management task, Tiwary is firmly claiming that it has been purely Rohit’s decision. “I think decision Rohit Sharma took. It was his own decision. I don’t think Gautam Gambhir will be able to drop Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. I think it was Rohit’s decision. Rohit should have played in Sydney because he was the captain. He said he wasn’t scoring runs, so obviously he wasn’t scoring runs, but others weren’t also doing so. Sometimes, you go to that mindset where you feel you must be dropped rather than someone else. You are just doubting your own abilities and putting others’ abilities above you,” Tiwary told Hindustan Times.
“It is something that shouldn’t be done by a captain. I suppose Rohit Sharma is a pretty good talent. He has proved himself. Everything goes through a bad phase, be it batters or bowlers. These things can be corrected and you can come back and make runs. Personally, I felt he should not have dropped himself. It seems he has done it for the sake of the team. As a captain, you cannot drop himself. The Test series is on the line,” he added.
