Manu Bhaker Just Misses Podium in Thrilling 25m Pistol Final at Paris Olympics

Manu Bhaker, the 22-year-old Indian shooting sensation, narrowly missed out on a third Olympic medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing fourth in the women’s 25m pistol final with 28 points. Bhaker, who had already won two bronze medals in the women’s 10m air pistol and mixed team 10m air pistol events, came agonizingly close to securing another podium finish.

In a tense competition, Bhaker was tied for third place with Hungary’s Veronika Major, a former world record holder in the 25m pistol event. The shoot-off series proved to be decisive, as Bhaker dropped two points, allowing Major to claim the bronze.

Yang Jiin of South Korea captured the gold medal with 37 points, winning a shoot-off 4-1 against French shooter Camille Jedrzejewski, who took silver.

Bhaker had advanced to her third final in the ongoing Summer Games after finishing second in the women’s 25m pistol shooting qualification on Friday. Her achievement of reaching three finals in a single Olympics is a remarkable feat for an Indian shooter, equaled only by Abhinav Bindra, who reached three Olympic shooting finals across three Games.

Bhaker’s journey at Paris 2024 has been one of resilience and excellence. She finished with an overall score of 590 in the qualification rounds, scoring 294 in the precision round and 296 in the rapid round. This performance followed her disappointing outing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she failed to reach the finals in any of her events.

Manu Bhaker has become the face of Indian shooting’s success in Paris, inspiring many with her dedication and skill. Despite narrowly missing out on a medal in the 25m pistol event, her accomplishments at the Paris Olympics will be remembered as a significant milestone in her career and for Indian sports.
