Indian shooting sensation Manu Bhaker, who recently made headlines by winning two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics 2024, met with Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday. This meeting came just two days after her arrival in the capital, where she was celebrated for her historic achievements in pistol shooting.

She opened India’s medal tally by securing third place in the women’s individual 10m air pistol event, making history as the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal. Following this, she teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to clinch a bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event, which was also a first for India in shooting team events.
Despite her impressive achievements, Bhaker narrowly missed out on a chance for a historic treble, finishing fourth in the women’s 25m pistol shooting event. Nevertheless, her two medals have solidified her status as one of India’s top athletes and have inspired countless young shooters across the country.

In addition to her meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Bhaker also met Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi at her official residence earlier in the week. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his admiration for Bhaker, stating, “Delighted to meet India’s ace shooter, Manu Bhaker, who scripted history at the Paris Olympics by winning two bronze medals for the country. Every Indian is elated by her incredible performances. Best wishes for her future endeavours.” His words highlight the national pride associated with Bhaker’s achievements.
