Maple Leafs recall Jacob Quillan on verge of NHL Trade Deadline

Maple Leafs recall Jacob Quillan on verge of NHL Trade Deadline
Quillan has played in four games for the Maple Leafs this season, but has not recorded a point. The 24-year-old has been highly productive for the Marlies, registering 12 goals and 33 points in 38 games. Quillan will likely get a larger look in the Maple Leafs’ lineup, as the team is positioned to trade several roster players prior to Friday’s deadline. Nicolas Roy was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, in exchange for a top-10 protected 2027 first-round pick, and a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick.
Scott Laughton, Bobby McMann and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were all healthy scratches due to roster management purposes for Wednesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. All three players are on the trade block, and could be moved ahead of Wednesday’s deadline. If Laughton and/or McMann are traded, it will create further opportunities for Quillan, among several other young players in the Maple Leafs’ system.

It’s unclear exactly where Quillan will slot in, but he could directly replace Roy on Toronto’s third line for Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers. Berube is expected to meet with travelling reporters ahead of Thursday’s game, where there will be greater clarity on the lineup.

“Q, he’s got great speed. He plays both wing and centre, but he brings speed to the game,” Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said prior to a November 18 game against the St. Louis Blues. “He’s a competitive kid, but his speed is what drives him. He’s fast, he’s powerful for a young kid. He’s going to bring energy to the game. He’s going to work. He’s going to compete, that’s what he’s going to bring to the game tonight.”

Quillan could potentially be joined by Luke Haymes in the coming days, as the Maple Leafs retool at the deadline with the 2025-26 campaign finished for all competitive intents and purposes.
