With the recent launch and success of the PVP/PVE extraction shooter Arc Raiders, it seems that we’ll be seeing the genre more often in the future. In fact theres a title coming out soon in March. Marathon is a PvPvE survival extraction from the minds of Halo and Destiny. With the Sci-Fi world of Tau Ceti IV at players’ disposal, there’s a lot to be explored. Here’s everything you’ll need to know before the Marathon release date on March 5.

“Infil into the dark sci-fi world of Tau Ceti IV: A derelict colony rife with rival Runners, hostile UESC security forces, and hazardous environments. As you scavenge its zones for valuables with a crew or alone, tense moments of exploration break into fast-paced PvP combat where gunplay is responsive, time to kill is low, and preparation is rewarded.”
Marathon Gameplay Breakdown
The folks over at Bungie are experimenting with the PvPvE extraction genre with Marathon. Currently theres not too much to be known about Marathon since its announcement. Players will be scavenging supplies across different deserted research facilities and rugged landscapes. There will be enemies, dynamic events, and other hazards. Just like with any other exfil shooter, with each successful extraction, you advance. In Maratho,n you can progress your way towards seasonal power, cosmetics for achievements, and the opportunity to create stronger builds with stolen loot. A diverse playstyle is offered through six equippable “Runner shells”; these act as the character classes. They all come with moddable weapons, body implants, and core system upgrades to create different playstyles and builds. The game can be played in trios or alone in a solo lobby.
Of course theres more than extraction to Marathon. The story will mainly be told through contracts for each of the six factions you’ll encounter in-game. The more contracts you complelte the more you uncover about the mysteries of Tau Ceti’s fate.
How Much Is Marathon?
The standard edition of Marathon is listed to cost $39.99. For those who choose to pre-purchase Martathon will receive additional rewards, which will include weapon cosmetics, an emblem, and a background for Marathon at launch. Additionally there will be some rewards for Destiny 2 if players link their Bungie.net account.
