Maria Sakkari confirms engagement to son of Greek Prime Minister

Maria Sakkari and her long-time partner Konstantinos Mitsotakis, the son of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, are engaged. Interestingly, the news was first revealed by the Prime Minister himself during a traditional New Year’s coffee gathering in Athens on January 1, 2026, however, the tennis star did later confirm the information at the United Cup.

The 30-year-old Sakkari was proposed to just before her departure for Australia, following nearly five years of dating. The couple, who began their relationship in 2020, got engaged during the Christmas holidays, with their wedding planned for 2027.

Currently competing in Australia at the United Cup, Sakkari has been spotted wearing a striking engagement ring that belonged to Konstantinos’ mother, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis. On the court, the Greek star showed no signs of distraction, shaking off last year’s round-robin disappointment to lead Greece to a strong start in Perth. She delivered a statement performance with a straight-sets victory over four-time Grand Slam champion and world No. 16 Naomi Osaka.

In her on-court interview at the United Cup, Sakkari confirmed the engagement, praising her fiancé:

I’m a lucky girl. I really really wish that every person in the world gets a partner that loves, and you love, and gets the love that I get from my fiancé now. I’m a lucky girl. He’s amazing. He’s awesome. He gives me a lot of strength and a lot of courage to keep going and just achieve my goals.

According to Neos Kosmos, Prime Minister Mitsotakis praised his future daughter-in-law, describing Sakkari as “an exceptional young woman.” He also confirmed the 2027 wedding plans and added, with a smile, that he was “absolutely ready” to become a grandfather.

Sakkari has previously spoken warmly about her partner, highlighting the simplicity and ease of their relationship. “Konstantinos is a very simple guy. I can talk to him for hours. We have a very easy relationship. He is a very easy person,” she once said.

With both her personal life and tennis career entering exciting new chapters, the two-time Grand Slam semifinalist appears to be starting 2026 on the strongest possible footing.
