Australia thrashed Oman by nine wickets, with 62 balls to spare, in the final group-stage match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The Mitchell Marsh-led side won the toss and elected to field first. Oman lost Aamir Kaleem off the very first ball of the match, and from that point their innings never took off, as Australia claimed wickets at regular intervals. Wasim Ali attempted to mount some resistance during his 33-ball stay at the crease, scoring 32 runs with four boundaries. However, apart from him, none of the other batters had an answer to the Australian bowlers. Adam Zampa was the standout performer with the ball, taking four wickets for 21 runs in 3.2 overs at an economy rate of 6.30, while Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with two wickets apiece. Oman were bowled out for 104 in 16.2 overs.
In reply, Australian openers and captain Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head provided an aggressive start, stitching together a 93-run partnership off 49 balls that all but sealed the match. After Head’s dismissal, Marsh ensured there were no further setbacks and guided his side to victory with nine wickets in hand. Marsh remained unbeaten on 64 from 33 balls, an innings featuring seven fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 193.94. Head scored 32. Zampa was adjudged Player of the Match.
