SCORECARD
Yorkshire endured frustration with the bat as Hampshire seized control at the halfway stage of the ongoing Rothesay County Championship fixture at Headingley, thanks largely to Kyle Abbott and Sonny Baker.
The pace duo claimed four wickets apiece to bowl the hosts out for 177 in their first-innings reply to 251 in useful bowling conditions.
Yorkshire started day two on 48-4. And, having initially recovered though top-scorer Adam Lyth and newly-capped Matthew Revis, they slipped during the afternoon.
Lyth 76 and Revis 40 completed a partnership of exactly 100 for the fifth wicket during a day of a handful of weather interruptions, including delaying the start until 11.30am. But Yorkshire fell from 137-4 to 177 all out after lunch, with South African Abbott striking three times in that period.
From just before tea onwards, Hampshire steadily built on their 74-run lead with 93-2 from 28 overs – the lead is an overall 167 – and Yorkshire now have significant work to do.
The far from ideal day – 24 overs were lost in all – was further compounded with the need to sub Australian overseas seamer Jhye Richardson out during the afternoon because of illness.

Logan van Beek came in to replace him and batted at 10 in the first innings and bowled in the second.
Having been handed his first-team cap by ex-captain Steve Patterson in the Hawke Suite last night – alongside fellow England Lion James Wharton – Revis looked in excellent order this morning, playing nicely through the off-side off the back foot more than once.
The Lyth and Revis partnership has been the only century stand of a hugely entertaining match so far, and they helped Yorkshire through to lunch at 129-4.
Lyth reached his second successive fifty, off 130 balls, just before the break.
He hit 97 in the second innings against Glamorgan at Cardiff last week.
Afterwards, Abbott wrestled back the initiative Hampshire held overnight with three wickets as the score fell from 137-4 to 149-7.

He bowled Revis and George Hill with Lyth caught behind in between. Abbott was the pick of the bowlers with 4-49 from 20 overs.
A short rain delay followed before Liam Dawson’s left-arm spin ousted Dom Bess caught behind, with Codi Yusuf and Baker finishing things off. Harry Duke was also caught behind and Jack White bowled.
Amidst the falling wickets, van Beek came in to bat at number 10 in place of Richardson, who will not miss Yorkshire’s next game despite having to sit out the next eight days.
Yorkshire don’t have a game next weekend. They next play when Sussex visit Headingley, starting on April 24.
There was a rain break of a little over an hour from 5.05pm before van Beek trapped Joe Weatherley lbw in the first over back and later had left-handed Nick Gubbins smartly caught behind by Duke for 48.
But Yorkshire will need more wickets, and quickly, in the morning.
