Here is Matt L’s heavily discounted but satisfactorily heavy alloy Rocky Mountain Instinct.
Your Name

Bike brand and model
Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy
Why this bike?
My eldest son grew big enough to ride my bike which meant I needed a new one! I’ve never spent crazy amounts on a bike but wanted something modern that would do a bit of everything.

The Instinct was heavily discounted as, at the time, I believe the Rocky Mountain was between importers.
I’ve had several Konas but never a Rocky Mountain, so this looked like a bargain to try. Great geometry, decent finishing kit and not too heavy for the cost.

Fork
Lyrik

Thingy Deluxe
Suspension Set Up
Stock, as it came. Set the knobs in the middle and got the sag right. It’s got a 9-position chip to change the geometry and I guess I should try some other settings but I’m happy as it is.

Accessories
Nice grippy Specialized bottle cage and an old front mudguard in an awful colour that was meant to be temporary! Mint Sauce stickers, obvs.

Size and Weight
Medium. Satisfactory.
Additional Comments
I thought, with the news of Rocky Mountain getting new importers, this might be of interest. I’ve had it just over a year and need to ride it more having dislocated my shoulder last March so missed most of the good early summer weather.
A wet, newly fixed trail in Morzine tested the mud-clearance to the point of failure but otherwise it’s a please to ride on manmade and natural trails. I love it.

We’ll be rewarding any submission published with a piece of STW merch. NB: they don’t have to be new bikes. Or expensive bikes. Or even clean bikes. We want to see real bikes from real riders.
