The Philadelphia Eagles entered combine week with questions swirling around A.J. Brown’s future, but according to NBC Sports insider Matthew Berry, another major name appears far more certain to move on.

In his annual roundup of the most interesting things he heard at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Berry did not mince words when discussing tight end Dallas Goedert.

“While many of the Eagles headlines these days are about whether A.J. Brown will stay or go, one player I’m told that will definitely be moving on from Philly this offseason is Dallas Goedert.”

That wording stood out.

In a week filled with speculation and smoke screens, Berry’s takeaway was clear. Goedert’s time in Philadelphia appears to be nearing its end.

Berry’s report aligns with growing sentiment around the league that the Eagles are preparing for significant roster reshuffling.

Goedert is coming off a strong 2025 campaign in which he posted 60 receptions, 591 yards and 11 touchdowns in 15 games.

He also reset the franchise’s single-season touchdown mark for a tight end, surpassing a record that had stood since 1965.

Despite his great production, the business side of things may ultimately dictate the Eagles’ decision.

Eagles Financial Reality Could Push Goedert Out

The Eagles have several looming financial priorities, including anticipated long-term extensions for cornerstone defensive linemen Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. There are also broader roster questions, including uncertainty around edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and whether he fits into the team’s long-term plans.

General manager Howie Roseman said at the combine that he planned to speak with Goedert’s representatives, but that doesn’t guarantee anything.

Philadelphia allowed Goedert to explore free agency last offseason before he returned on a reworked one-year-deal worth $10 million.

This time, the expectation around the league is different.

Goedert is coming off a career-defining season and may be seeking the security of a multi-year contract. With the tight end market rising and several teams searching for reliable pass catchers, competition could drive his price beyond what Philadelphia is willing to pay.

From a roster construction standpoint, allocating premium dollars to a veteran tight end may not fit Roseman’s broader plan.

Eagles Tight End Room Facing Major Transition

If Berry’s report proves accurate, the Eagles will face a notable transition at a position that has been remarkably stable for nearly two decades. From Brent Celek to Zach Ertz to Goedert, Philadelphia has enjoyed consistent production at tight end.

That continuity now appears in jeopardy.

The current depth chart offers little certainty. Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson are also headed toward free agency, and the new offensive coaching staff has emphasized a desire for improved run blocking from the position group.

The upcoming draft presents an opportunity for the Eagles to reset the tight end room with younger and cheaper options.

Free agency is another option. The Eagles have been linked to a potential Zach Ertz reunion, and other names such as Cade Otton, Isaiah Likely and David Njoku have also been floated as possible replacements.

Berry is one of the league’s most trusted insiders, and when he speaks that definitively, it tends to mean something.
