Matthew Hayden, the former captain of Australia, strongly believes that Virat Kohli will not disappoint during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia. Is it true that Hayden expressed uneasiness concerning Kohli after all these years? When such series are usually non-competitive, such streaks are broken when the series is of such great importance.
As the tour of Australia begins with the first match on November 22 in Perth, all the load has come to Kohli’s shoulders as he has to fill in the shoes of the missing captain Rohit Sharma. During the virtual meeting with the media which was organized by Cricket Australia, Hayden had words of appreciation for Kohli’s temperament and also spoke of his age and achievements outside Australia in connection with the series. Hayden revealed that it will be very important for India and his performance will be especially important since the team is striving hard to reach the final of World Test Championship.
“Of course virat has that never-say-never attitude which he displays every time he steps onto the field and this is without doubt one of the most cruel or rather the most exciting contests in the history of Test matches. He is in a team that has suffered the team from down under, in their home ground for nearly a decade and that is a very key aspect considering the place he has put a lot of effort. There is a lot that he can bring to the game apart from bat where he also instills confidence in the fight and also in his fitness,” Hayden concluded.
Evidently, there is a lot for Virat to achieve. Sadly, he is unable to transfer any of his great performances from any previous season; it is a new one. It’s a different one. Now he begins with a score of zero and a total of nothing. We know he knows better than that and can achieve anything over fifty, as he is the second most eccentric for his country after Sachin Tendulkar, but whoah!… it’s up to him then… I hope the best for him, as in Australia we are looking forward to him, facing what one can argue is the greatest bowling attack in the history of Australian cricket, “Hayden added.
That year, India suffered a 3-0 home Test series loss to New Zealand and thus came into the series. Kohli has also not been in the best of forms, the batsman having scored 93 runs in the series, with 70 coming in one innings. This year has not been easy for the 36-year-old since he has only managed 250 runs in six Tests at an average of 22.72 with just a single fifty.
