Max Verstappen makes crucial announcement with new Nurburging plans

Max Verstappen has confirmed that he will take part in the qualifiers for the Nurburgring 24 Hours, ahead of his already-planned appearance in the prestigious race.

The Dutchman has held a long-term ambition to race in the event at the infamous Nordschleife circuit, having completed all the necessary races in order to meet the requirements to do so.

Last month, Verstappen competed in a Red Bull-liveried Mercedes-AMG at the circuit in the NLS championship, taking victory before being disqualified for using more sets of tyres than the rules mandated.

Ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix last weekend, Verstappen intimated that he may offer his services for qualifying for the race, with his previous race partners – Jules Gounon and Dani Juncadella – unavailable, and also completed a further test at the circuit instead of planned Pirelli Formula 1 tyre test with the Red Bull team.

Max Verstappen will once again take to the ‘Green Hell’ ahead of the Nurburgring 24 Hours race

And now confirmation that this will be the case has now come via his Verstappen.com social media accounts, which posted a statement.

“Max returns to the Nordschleife soon for the 24hNBR Qualifiers, together with Austrian driver Lucas Auer for Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing,” it read.

It will be another extracarricular activity for Verstappen, who has continued to publicly question his future in F1, after another tough weekend in Suzuka.

Finishing eighth, the four-time World Champion once again hinted that he will weigh up the many options open to him, using the current calendar break to consider a potential retirement from the sport, due to his discontent with the new regulations.
