Prithvi Shaw has been taken out from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming Group A match against Tripura which is going to be played from October 26. The selection committee working under Sanjay Patil gathered at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy a while after the end of Mumbai’s match against Maharashtra.
“He has been given a break. The selectors and the coach have had a discussion with him and have briefed him about areas to work on, including fitness,” said Abhay Hadap, the secretary of Mumbai Cricket Association.
Prithvi Shaw managed to score 139 runs in 6 innings for Mumbai in this season, with a contribution of 76 runs in the Irani Cup. His fitness is being closely examined since he recovered from a knee injury earlier this year.
Taking this to consideration, Mumbai selectors have taken in Akhil Herwadkar who played his last game for the team in November 2018. Akhil will be playing at the opening spot along with Angkrish Raghuvanshi.
