MCA Unveils Plans for Massive New Stadium in Thane

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is gearing up for a grand slam with plans to construct a colossal new cricket stadium in Amane village, Thane district. This ambitious project promises to be a game-changer for Mumbai’s cricket scene, offering a state-of-the-art facility to complement the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

“The MCA is looking to build a massive 1 lakh capacity cricket stadium, spread on around 50 acres of open land in Amane, which is 26km off Thane, and 68km from the Wankhede Stadium. The MCA has filled the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land parcel. The association is waiting for approval from the Maharashtra govt,” a source said.

“This stadium was a dream project of MCA president Amol Kale (who passed away on June 10 in New York). It will have all the modern amenities, including two grounds on which first-class matches can be played,” the source added.

The proposed stadium boasts a staggering capacity of 100,000 spectators, envisioning a sea of cheering fans creating an electrifying atmosphere during matches. Spread across a vast 50-acre plot, the stadium will be strategically located, situated 26 kilometers from Thane city and 68 kilometers from the Wankhede. This strategic placement ensures easy accessibility for fans from both Thane and Mumbai.

The news comes on the heels of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s recent remarks advocating for a new world-class stadium in Mumbai. Interestingly, the project aligns perfectly with the vision of the late MCA president, Amol Kale, who had dreamt of creating this very facility. Reports suggest the stadium will be decked out with all the modern amenities one can expect, including two grounds dedicated to hosting first-class matches.

Beyond the stadium itself, this project signifies a significant development for Mumbai’s cricketing landscape. With two international-standard venues, the city will be well-positioned to host a larger number of high-profile matches, attracting not just domestic but also international tournaments. This increased cricket activity is bound to generate excitement and enthusiasm among fans, further solidifying Mumbai’s place as a premier cricketing hub in India.

There’s more to the cricket buzz in Mumbai. News also broke about India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, being awarded a noteworthy portion of the prize money announced by Chief Minister Shinde. This recognition highlights the crucial role Mhambrey played in India’s triumphant T20 World Cup campaign.
