Following hot on the heels of the news that Barry-John McHenry joins the 2026 UK TCR Grid comes the announcement that former SEAT Supercup Champion Rod McGovern will also make the jump. Having dipped his toe in the water with a few previous appearances, he intends to compete in the full 2026 season.

McGovern returns to the TCR UK Touring Car Championship with Power Maxed Racing as he builds on his experience in top-level touring car competition.

The Irish driver is a familiar name within the championship, having previously competed in TCR UK machinery. His decision to remain with the team provides continuity and a strong foundation as he looks to push on in one of the UK’s most competitive touring car series. He will be piloting a championship winning Cupra VZ TCR which was driven by Jenson Brickley in TCR Europe.

McGovern brings an extensive Touring Car background to the grid. He is a multiple race winner and the 2017 SEAT Supercup Ireland Champion, a title that marked him out as one of Ireland’s leading tin-top drivers. His progression from one-make championships into TCR competition has seen him gain valuable experience against high-calibre opposition.

Returning to the championship, Rod is focused on building consistency and extracting maximum performance from the package as he targets a competitive season with PMR. A comprehensive testing and preparation programme is planned ahead of the new campaign, allowing McGovern and Power Maxed Racing to maximise seat time and refine their setup ahead of the opening round.

“I’m really pleased to be returning to TCR UK and continuing with Power Maxed Racing,” said McGovern. “The team knows the championship inside out, and staying together gives us a great platform to keep progressing. I’m looking forward to getting back on track and building on what we’ve already learned.”

TCR UK Championship Manager Jack Finlan welcomed McGovern’s return to the grid:

“It’s great to see Rod continuing in the TCR UK Championship with Power Maxed Racing,” said Finlan. “He’s got a strong background in touring cars and valuable experience in TCR machinery, and continuity like this is always positive. We’re looking forward to seeing him back on the grid this season.”
