The McLaren 720S GT3 is set to continue for another two years as the manufacturer plans for its next GT3 challenger. I have full details in this week’s Racecraft & Race Cars Roundup along racecraft tips and more.
Racecraft Tips & Techniques
A Trail Braking Coaching Session
Ross Bentley of Speed Secrets gives a trail braking coaching session as h recounts a conversation between himself and a driver. “Note that this is not a transcript of any one coaching session, or with any one driver. Because I’ve coached this specific topic with so many drivers (hundreds!), this is a composite of all of them.” You can read the conversation here.
Remote Coaching Can Make You Faster–Here’s How
Ross Bentley also explains how remote coaching can benefit race drivers. “With technology now, I can see as much remotely as I could be in the car with you,” Ross explains. “It can be as effective–and sometimes more effective–because I get more views, more angles, more inputs of information than I could if I was in the car with you. I can also focus on one thing; I can’t help you go faster when I’m hoping just to survive [as a passenger]. And there’s less cost, generally, because there are no travel costs.”

What It Takes to Set a Nurburgring Lap Record In a VW Golf
VW’s mission was to make the Golf GTI Edition 50 its fastest car ever around the Nordschleife, no matter what it took. Richard Ingram of Auto Express talks to Volkswagen test driver and touring-car racer Benny Leuchter about how he did it.

McLaren Set to Continue With 720S GT3 For Next Two Years

McLaren is set to continue with its 720S GT3 Evo in customer racing competition for at least the next two seasons according to McLaren Automotive motorsport boss Giorgio Sanna, who suggested not to expect an all-new car until 2028 at the earliest.
“We are already working on the future,” Sanna told selected reporters during last month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona. “For me it’s good because I’m arriving now in a moment where we can write down our future properly. It’s early to talk about the future of GT3 but there will for sure be news coming along the season about the timeline and everything.”

SCCA Road Racing Program Undergoes Strategic Shift, Setting Up for Future Success
To ensure success in the long term, SCCA will be reorganizing its Road Racing leadership committee structure in 2026, allowing for strategic oversight of the program in an ever-changing market.
“The SCCA has long-been the gold standard in amateur racing,” explained SCCA Board of Directors chair Bob Crawford. “This change will allow us to build on that history and continue forward with a renewed vigor.”
In its current form, SCCA’s Road Racing program has three loosely connected entities leading it, with one entity creating rules and classes upon member requests, a second entity conducting events and experiences for members racing cars in those classes, and a third entity responsible for building a business around and marketing what the other two groups are doing. Collaboration between the three occurs, but not in a strategic enough way that is conducive to keeping pace with market competition.
