The Miami Open heads into week two with Daniil Medvedev doing battle with Francisco Cerundolo during third-round competition on Monday. Alex Michelsen is going up against Alejandro Tabilo.
(9) Daniil Medvedev vs. (18) Francisco Cerundolo
Francisco Cerundolo’s results at the Miami Masters are one of tennis’s more interesting oddities. The Argentine is a great clay-court player and often makes his way to the business end of those tournaments. But he also consistently performs well in Miami.
It’s bad luck for him that he runs into a red-hot Daniil Medvedev. The Russian, who endured a miserable 2025 campaign, is back in a big way. He has two titles and just made the final in Indian Wells. Medvedev might not be yet in the kind of form that saw him to his lone Grand Slam title at the 2021 U.S. Open, but he is also not that far off.

Alejandro Tabilo vs. Alex Michelsen
This will be the first meeting between Alex Michelsen (No. 40) and Alejandro Tabilo (No. 41). The American is in good form right now. He posted a strong result in Indian Wells (defeated Taylor Fritz) and he has similarly played well so far in Miami. Michelsen scored an easy straight-set win over Mattia Bellucci in the first round and survived a tough battle against Cameron Norrie in the second.

Tabilo may not be a clay-court specialist, but he is far more successful on the red stuff than he is on hard courts. The Chilean did well to get past a struggling Andrey Rublev in the second round, but I don’t see him advancing to the round of 16.
