In the fifth episode of “Belgian Division One Transactions For 2026” we pay attention to the team that finished in sixth place in 2025: The Merchtem Cats.
For the 2026 season the Merchtem Cats added five new players and did not loose any.
The following players were added to the Cats’ Division One/ Division Two roste (more about that later) in alphabetical order:
Cedric Cooremans
Cedric played for the Wase Baseball Academy (WBA for short) Foxes in 2025. With .100 his batting average wasn’t quite impressive but Cedric played some games in Division Two in which he showed some promise at bat. Cedric will serve as an outfielder, even though he played some games as a catcher as well in 2025.
Xian Pofliet
Xian played for the WBA Foxes in 2025. In Division Two, he posted an 11-5 record with a 5.11 ERA. In nineteen appearances, Xian had eighteen starts and pitched two complete games. In 105.2 innings pitched, he struck out 101. Even though he lowered the batting average of his opponents from .365 in 2024 to .289 in 2025, there is still room for improvement.
Yens Rotthier
Yens played with the farm team of Oosterhout Twins (Netherlands) in 2025. Formerly He used to play for the WBA Foxes. Next to first base, Yens can play outfield and can function as utility player. No 2025 stats could be found.
Lennert Schats
Lennert comes from WBA Foxes. He is a youth National Team player and also played in the Future Stars programs in the Netherlands. Lennart had an impressive batting average with the WBA Foxes in 2025: .349 with two doubles and two home runs. He stole eleven bases in thirteen attempts. Lennert will be used as a utility player. He can also pitch, even though his 2025 stats do not show.
Nabil Tauil
Nabil played for Deurne Spartans last year.
Newly added sportive manager Jamie Flynn coached Nabil at Phoenix Mont-Saint-Guibert. Even though his stats tell he is a pitcher, he will be used as an outfielder. With Deurne Spartans, Nabil played only one game.
According to Jamie Flynn, to keep things competitive, the rosters of the Division One and DIvision Two teams of the Merchtem Cats will change by the week. In this way, all players will have a shot to play and get experience at the highest level.
