Mexican Amateur Boxing Champion Josue Hernandez Killed at Age 20 in Home Break-In

San Luis Potosi, Mexico (December 11th, 2025)– It has been reported Mexican amateur boxing champion Josue David Hernandez, age 20, in training for 2026 his professional debut after five years in amateur competition during which time he won many national titles, was killed on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in a home break in defending his four sisters from attack, at home in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, located north of Mexico City.
When one of his sisters was attacked, Hernandez intervened to protect her, and was killed with a machete. Local reports stated it is believed the attacker was a relative. The assailant is still at large, and the precise motive for the attack remains unclear at his time.
The trainer and close friend of Hernandez, local hero and former super flyweight world title challenger Jonathan ‘Titan’ Rodriguez, 25-2-1 with 17 knockouts, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, stated “Today I woke up to the devastating and heartbreaking news you are no longer here. My friend, my brother, my running partner. So many dreams (unfulfilled) to fulfill. So many conversations, and all the trust we had in each other to achieve everything. A part of my heart goes with you.” Rodriguez, age 30, inactive since a July 2023 10-round split draw with Israel Gonzalez in Monterrey, will attempt a comeback against 13-1 Jeyvier Cintron at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on January 10, 2026. Rodriguez fought bravely but lost a 12-round decision for the IBF World Super Flyweight championship at Mohegan Sun Casino to Jerwin Ancajas in April 2021.
